Brody Klinge won the third event of the weekend at the Winmau DPA Pro Tour and took a position in the NSW Darts Masters after coming runners up to the already qualified new Pro Tour leader Brenton Lloyd.
Josh Townsend defeated Tim Pusey two sets to nil in the quarter-finals. He won the first set 3-0. He then fought off a mini comeback from Pusey (2-0 down to 2-2) by winning the deciding leg of the second set. In the same side of the draw Brody Klinge defeated GG Mathers by two sets to nil. There was only one break of throw in the match, the fifth game of the first set, as Klinge won both sets in deciding legs.
Brandon Weening won the first leg of his quarter final against Jeremy Fagg. The Queenslander then secured three straight legs. Weening exactly flipped the scoring in the second set to draw level. Fagg won the first two legs in the deciding set. Weening then secured three straight legs, which included a ten dart third leg, to win the match. His opponent in the semifinals would be Mal Cuming who eliminated Brenton Lloyd two sets to nil (3-1, 3-2) in their quarter final.
In the first semi final Klinge won the first set against Townsend 3-1. Townsend then drew level after winning the second set 3-2. Klinge came from a game behind to take the third set 3-1. He then won the final set in three straight legs to make the final. His opponent would be Weening who conceded only four legs against Cuming (3-1, 3-1, 3-2) in their semifinal.
The final saw Klinge win the first set three legs to nil on throw. He then won the second set 3-1 against the throw. Klinge went behind two legs to nil in the third before winning three straight legs. He thus took out the match three sets to nil.
For Weening it was his second loss of the weekend at the final stage. Klinge not only took out the event but secured his first World Series of Darts position. (Brenton Lloyd won the weekend overall but had already qualified for the NSW Darts Masters on weekend one this year.)
After the weekend Lloyd has a $500 lead over GG Mathers in the race for the Ally Pally position as Australia’s number one. Weening is a couple of hundred dollars behind Mathers in third.
Over the Weekend the DPA 20 and unders (averages) events saw Geoff Sheill defeat Tonino Rosa 4-3 in the event’s final on Saturday. On Sunday Matt Turvey won the final of this competition with a 4-2 win over John Bunyard in the second event
