The Commercial Club Albury hosted event seven of the Winmau DPA Pro Tour on Saturday with two events concluded on the day. Stuart Coburn was the first big winner of the day before Brenton Lloyd once more in the 2024 season.
Event seven of the season saw Tim Pusey eliminate tour leader GG Mathers 6-4 in the quarter finals. The other three matches at that stage saw wins for Stuart Coburn (6-2 against Hayden Scott), Rob Modra and Jeremy Fagg (6-3 over Mal Cuming and James Bailey respectively.)
The semi finals saw two clear winners. Both matches ended 6-2 with Pusey (v Fagg) and Coburn (v Modra) moving into the final.
That final saw the players hold throw for the first five legs. Pusey then broke his opponents throw. In response Coburn went on a run of four legs to take the final 6-4.
Event eight saw Mal Cuming defeat Joe Comito 6-4, Brandon Weening also winning by the same score over Jeremy Fagg. Brody Klinge defeated Rob Modra 6-3 and Brenton Lloyd prevented four Victorians being in the semi finals with a 6-3 win over Harley Kemp.
Weening then won his semi final in a deciding leg (over Cuming.) His opponent would be Lloyd after he defeated Klinge 6-4.
Lloyd broke first but Weening responded straight away. After six legs it was three legs all before Lloyd won three straight to win the final 6-3.
The final event of the weekend will be held Sunday. The overall winner of the weekend will qualify for a place at the NSW Darts Masters in Wollongong in August. (Lloyd and Modra have qualified from the first two weekends.)
