The Winmau DPA tour continued on Saturday at the Warilla Bowls and Recreation Club and it was the tour leader who secured both wins on the day.
The first quarter finals on Saturday saw Troy Papworth continue his fine NSW form by outlasting fellow Blue and sixth seed, Dave Hanel, 5-4. Number two seed Joe Comito eliminated Aaron Gardner 5-2 whilst the man above him in the seeding, Darren Penhall, also progressed thanks to a 5-0 win over Jacob Turvey. Mitchell Clegg, having won a title just the weekend before at Mittagong, defeated David Williams 5-2 to make up the semi finalists.
Both semi finals ended up being fairly clear affairs with Comito defeating Papworth 5-3 and Penhall even more impressive with a 5-1 win over Clegg.
The Final saw the man in pole position for the Ally Pally position consolidate that favouritism as Darren Penhall defeated Joe Comito 5-3. Comito held throw before conceding four consecutive games and despite winning two matches to move from 4-1 to 4-3 the comeback was too much as Penhall held throw in 16 darts to take the Final.
The second event of the day saw a repeat of the earlier days action in the final as Darren Penhall overcame Joe Comito in the final, albeit in an even closer affair. This final saw Comito break the Penhall throw straight away, in 13 darts. He then held in 16 before his opponent held his own throw in 17 darts. Penhall then had four successive treble visits and checked out 61 with his 14th dart to move the match back to 2-2. Two maximum visits in three attempts then helped Penhall hold his own throw and move into the lead for the first time in the match. The next three legs went on throw to take the match to a deciding leg which Penhall won with a check out of 60 giving him the hold of throw and his second Final win of the day.
Earlier Penhall had defeated Brenton Lloyd 5-0 in the semi final as Comito progressed past Daniel Pearson 5-0 at the same stage. The quarter final scores had been Penhall 5-0 over David Platt, Lloyd 5-2 over Liam McDonnell, Comito 5-1 over Tic Bridge and Pearson 5-3 over Harley Kemp
