Darts in Latin America and the Caribbean will receive a huge boost with the introduction of the Championship Darts Latin America and Caribbean Tour later this year.
The Championship Darts Corporation (CDC) and its Central American affiliate – Championship Darts Latin America and Caribbean (CDLC) – have confirmed details of the ground-breaking events, which will begin in August.
The 2023 CDLC Tour will begin in the Costa Rican capital of San José from August 4-6, with two warm-up events being followed by back-to-back CDLC Tour events on Saturday August 5 and Sunday August 6.
The Hotel Torremayor in Santiago will then play host to the second and final weekend from October 13-15, with CDLC Tour Events Three and Four taking place in Chile.
Following the conclusion of October’s double-header, the player at the top of the CDLC Order of Merit will qualify for the 2023/24 World Darts Championship at London’s Alexandra Palace in December.
All qualifying events will be played over the best of 11 legs, with players competing for a prize fund of $1,900 (USD) in each of the four events – with the winner receiving $825.
The introduction of the CDLC Tour follows the announcement earlier in 2023 of the Latin America Qualifier for the World Cup of Darts, which will be held from May 12-14 in Costa Rica to provide one team for June’s 40-nation tournament.
“The start of the CDLC Tour is a big step forward for the global game,” said Peter Citera, CEO of Championship Darts Corporation.
“We know that the system we built in North America works and I’m excited to watch talent develop in an area of the world that has previously been a bit of an afterthought in darts.
“Thanks to CDLC President, Jeff Goode, for all the time and effort he’s put in to get us here and to Matt Porter and the PDC for their trust and support; this couldn’t have happened without them.”
The entry fee is $90 (USD) per weekend, which covers both CDLC Tour events. Registration will be handled onsite and payment must be made in cash in either US Dollars or the equivalent in local currency.
Plans are already being made to further expand the CDLC Tour in 2024 with the addition of a third CDLC Tour weekend and a new country to the rotation, which will be confirmed in due course.
Questions regarding the CDLC Tour should be directed via email to CDLCinfo@champdarts.com and may be made in English or Spanish.
