The last day of qualifier for the World Series of Darts events downunder concluded on Tuesday at the Warilla Darts and Recreation Club.
The NSW Darts Masters field was closed with the triumph of Mal Cuming over Bailey Marsh 7-2. Team Rebel’s Cuming had already qualified for the New Zealand Darts Masters whilst the 20 year old Marsh will be seen on the Townsville stage at the Queensland Darts Masters. The final had seen the two share the opening legs before Cuming won 6 of the next 7 legs for the win.
“To come through this field is amazing. I am stoked to get over the line. To come back today and win I am delighted. I was relaxed today and I felt like if it happened so be it, and it happened! I will regroup now, go home hit the practice board hard and go from there.”
The Wollongong qualifiers are Mal Cuming, Dave Marland, Raymond O’Donnell, Koha Kokiri and Haupai Puha.
In the afternoon the final position of the Queensland Darts Masters was filled. Team Misfit member, and former World Series of Darts participant, Tim Pusey and runners up in the race to the Ally Pally on Sunday, Joe Comito played off for the final position. It was a tight affair with Pusey taking a 1-0 lead before having to come from two legs behind to tie things up at 3-3. Comito then went ahead by a leg before Pusey won two legs to take the lead. Three straight legs to Comito meant it was he that took the final position on the Townsville stage with a 7-5 victory.
“The way I played this week it was great, I never expected to do this at all. Just to know that I can do it this is a stepping stone, I have nothing to lose at the end of the day. 18 months ago I was going through the motions then I headed to the PK Tavern and things went from there and look where I am now.”
The Townsville qualifiers are Joe Comito, Dave Marland, Bailey Marsh, Koha Kokiri and Haupai Puha.
The qualifiers are joined by Damon Heta, GG Mathers and Simon Whitlock. The PDC side of the draw include seven of the Premier League field from this year in James Wade, Gerwyn Price, Johnny Clayton, Peter Wright, Joe Cullen, Michael van Gerwen and Michael Smith as well as Fallon Sherrock
