The Simon Whitlock Trophy, thanks to Winmau, opens up the Dartplayers Australia events for 2025 on Friday the 21st of February 2025. It is being played at the Commercial Club Albury through to Sunday the 23rd of February 2025. The Commercial Club was a venue that was extremely accommodating to all players who attended last year.
Both the Pro Tour and Ladies tour players will be competing for the Simon Whitlock Trophy.
Simon Whitlock is a name and identity known well beyond the world of darts. He is not only the best darts player ever to come from Southern Hemisphere but is also one of the Professional Darts Corporation’s most prolific winners, having clinched several titles in his glittering career.
Simon did not keep his tour card for 2025 but he will still have a busy schedule amongst invited appearances, world seniors and exhibition tours and has already had success on the Modus tour.
Whitlock’s crowning glory to date is his 2012 European Championship triumph and winning the PDC World Cup of darts 2022 with fellow Australian Damon Heta.
He has also reached two World Championship finals and has been runner-up in both the Premier League and World Cup of Darts.
The Simon Whitlock trophy is awarded to the player on the DPA pro tour who gains the most points across events four to six. Previous winners include Rob Modra (2024), and Darren Penhall (2023). As with Whitlock, Modra and Penhall have played on the World Championship stage, Penhall in the PDC, Modra the WDF (/BDO). Whoever joins them with their name on the trophy will be looking to maintain that 100% record.
This year the winner of the weekend on the Ladies Tour will also have their name etched on the Simon Whitlock Trophy, the first time this has occurred for this trophy.
This will be the second round of events for the race to be the DPA’s number one player and gain a position at the PDC World Championships at the end of the year, having played the opening weekend of events at the end of last year at the Fraternity Club in North Wollongong.
On Friday night the race to Auckland for the World Series of Darts begins. The Friday night event will occur through the first four weekend DPA events of the year, with the player ranked number one for these events taking the Australian position in New Zealand at the World Series of Darts.
Also on Friday night, and throughout the weekend, will be the opening of the Ladies and Challenge Tours. These events will be round robin to knockouts and will also occur on Saturday and Sunday.
The Pro Tour will see two knockout events occur on the Saturday and then a set play knockout format played on the Sunday. Pro Tour Prize money has been raised and will see the winner taking $1600 for each event, whilst players will be paid down to the top 32.
