In the race for the Kyle Anderson Trophy on Sunday Joe Comito’s final win on the Sunday was enough to tie him with Jeremy Fagg for the trophy and for both players to go through to the World Series of Darts finals in Wollongong.
The final saw Comito defeat Harley Kemp 3-1 in the final. The first set saw Kemp go 2-1 up in legs before Comito won the next two legs to take the set. Kemp then clean swept the second set before Comito did the same in the third. Comito then broke Kemp’s throw and held his own to move a leg away from the win Kemp held throw before Comito did the same to take the final.
Over the weekend, therefore, Comito and Fagg finished on equal prize money and were awarded the Kyle Anderson trophy as co-winners. It was representative of Anderson’s playing days that players from Western Australia and Queensland took out the trophy bearing his name. Comito was excited about making the World Series of Darts for the third year in a row,
“I do enjoy winning the last qualification spot, it is when I shine but I look forward to showing what I can do, finally, on the World Series stage and I am definitely looking forward to them not averaging 105 against me.”
The semi finals had seen Comito eliminate Tremaine Gallagher three sets to nil and Kemp eliminate Tim Pusey three sets to one. Comito had eliminated current Australian number one Jeremy Fagg in the quarter finals 2-1 whilst Pusey eliminated the former number one in Brenton Lloyd 2-0. The previous afternoon’s finalist Brandon Weening fell to Kemp 2-1 at the same stage and GG Mathers fell 2-0 to Gallagher to finalise the four semi final positions.
The combination of results meant that before the final was played Jeremy Fagg had won the position for the World Series stage as Order of Merit leader after the July Winmau DPA Pro Tour events. It will be his first appearance in the World Series of Darts but as a very experienced competitor the environment won’t intimidate him. Fagg was looking forward to making his PDC debut,
“I’m definitely excited about playing across the two events. I am going to do nothing different than I have for the last two or three years going into the tournaments. I will still play one night a week, practice at home and have the self-belief.”
In the under 20s (average per dart) competition event 4 Emil Siya defeated Darren Lane in the final to take out the event
