The Winmau Protour event 5 was played on Saturday with 58 players participating in the competition.
Harley Kemp returned to the rarefied air of the winners circle on the DPA tour having made his mark as a young player a few years ago now. He defeated another young mane making waves in DPA events in Brenton Lloyd. Kemp defeated Lloyd 5-2 in the final having taken out the first, third, fourth, sixth and seventh leg.
Lloyd had made the final after eliminating one of the winners from the first weekend in Brandon Weening 5-3 in the semi finals and Mick Lacey in a deciding leg, 5-4, in the quarter finals. The other semi had seen Kemp defeat the winner from the night before at the Warilla Bowls and Recreation Club in Darren Penhall 5-2. In the quarters Kemp had eliminated Mitchell Clegg 5-1. The other two quarter finalists were Neil Morrisey (who lost 5-1 to Penhall) and Dave Hanel (who missed out on the deciding leg to lose 5-4 to Weening.)
In the evening Darren Penhall continued his rise up the Winmau Pro Tour (DPA) rankings when he secured his second event win of the weekend, over former World Series of Darts representative (a stage Penhall has now qualified for) Joe Comito at the Warilla Bowls and Recreation Club. The final was set up at three sets all when Penhall broke the Comito throw. He then backed it up with a pair of 180s in the last leg but failed in his attempt at a nine darter, instead cleaning it up in 12 to take the match 5-3.
The semi finals saw both finalists from earlier in the day fall as winner Harley Kemp lost 5-4 to Penhall and Brenton Lloyd falling 5-3 to fellow WA Comito.
Earlier Daniel Pearson, Brandon Weening, Mick Lacey and Tyrell Coppini had been eliminated at the quarter final stage. 59 players had been a part of this event and they now turn their attention to Sunday where two more events of the Winmau Pro Tour are completed
