Mal Cuming will make his New South Wales Darts Masters return in August, after winning through Friday’s DPA Qualifier in Warilla.
Cuming, who made his Cazoo World Championship debut at Alexandra Palace in December, defeated Dave Marland 5-3 in Friday’s final to confirm his place in the World Series of Darts event in Wollongong.
The New South Wales Darts Masters will return to the WIN Entertainment Centre from August 11-12, as eight of the PDC’s biggest names take on eight local representatives across two days of action.
Cuming – beaten by Fallon Sherrock in last year’s tournament – averaged 93 and landed five 180s to prevail in a high-quality contest against Marland, who spurned three darts at double to force a last-leg decider.
Cuming kicked off his campaign with consecutive 5-1 wins over Dave Hanel and Mitchel Beswick, before booking his place in the quarter-finals with a 5-2 success against David Boyle.
The 47-year-old then overcame Tic Bridge in the last eight, before closing out an impressive 5-2 victory over former PDC Tour Card Holder Gordon Mathers, a semi-finalist at last year’s Queensland Darts Masters.
Friday’s NSW Darts Masters Qualifier preceded the opening weekend of DPA Pro Tour action in 2023, with the first four Pro Tour events taking place from February 18-19 in Warilla.
The DPA Pro Tour will see 20 events held this year, and Australia’s top stars will be broadcast around the world, with matches from the last 16 onwards in each DPA Pro Tour event streamed live on PDCTV.
