Australasian Championship Update

The day started with another teams round and the two Kiwi teams drew 7 all. Western Australia edged out NSW 8-6, South Australia beat Tasmania 9-5, whilst the big guns of Victoria and Queensland continued on their winning ways with big wins over the ACT (11-3) and the Ingineous All Stars (13-1) respectively.
In the womens teams event the New Zealand sides also went head to head but in this battle there was only one winner as the North beat the South 8-3. Victoria and South Australia continued on their winning ways (over Tasmania and NSW 7-4 and 6-5 respectively.) In the final clash for the round Queensland’s women dominated just as their male colleagues had done, defeating the Indigenous All Stars 8-3.
In the Womens Matchplay event on Saturday afternoon Chenesse Kauika defeated Kayleigh Johnson 2-0. Emma Watkins and Janine Cassar defeated Waitere Maralyn and Jo Hadley respectively with the same scoreline. In the final quarter final Leonie Ward defeatd Melina Van Den Kieboom 2-1. Kauika then put Ward to the sword, 3-0, in the firs semi final. The second semi was a lot closer and went to a deciding leg which Watkins won to take Cassar down 3-2.
The Mens Matchplay quarter finals saw James Bailey, Craig Ross and David Platt all record 3-0 whitewashes (over Laurie Loch, Barry Jouannett, and Barry Gardner respectively.) In the battle of Kiwi top guns Cody Harris took out the deciding leg to defeat Haupai Puha 3-2. Both semi finals were 4-0 whitewashes, with Bailey defeated Ross and Platt taking Harris down.
Both these finals will be played on Sunday.
